Friendmas! AKA “Glittermas”

Every year, all of our friends have friendmas…we go out for a meal and do Secret Santa. It’s pretty basic, but let me explain further…we do this every year. It’s annual. It used to be called Lara’s annual mince pie and mulled wine party. But then I stopped hosting it because I got white carpets and also no-one really liked mulled wine. Or mince pies.

So Friendmas!

This was a good last chance to hang out with all my best friends in the world before Mr Jiggly comes and also get drunk on the atmosphere of everyone else getting drunk for real.

I used this opportunity to buy myself a new dress which was probably frivolous and idiotic seeing as I’ll only be pregnant for another 2 weeks, max. But hey, I’m a rollercoaster of emotions and one of those emotions is “shopping frenzy”.

image

I bought a sweatshirt dress from Topshop (maybe not the best idea considering my current body temperature) which is super cute. It’s got sort of embroidered hearts on it…I mean they ARE hearts, but I’m not sure if it counts as embroidery.

It’s a size 14, non maternity dress and it’s slightly big…fits perfectly on the bump but on the top, I’m normally a size 10..But I just rolled my sleeves up and I figured when the baby comes out I’ll just wash it and tumble dry it..so it shrinks. Good plan huh?

image

To make the outfit Christmassy, I GLITTERED IT UP. Glitter lids! I used Topshop glitter shadow which is brilliant..first you apply the cream eye shadow to your lids and then the glitter sticks on. Amaze.

image

I also wore loads of blingy gold again. That’s my Christmas jam now. Big gold Zara necklace, gold watch, gold bracelet, gold ring. Plus tonnes of makeup and red lipstick.

image

#friendmas was super fun too..I left after the Thai meal and a glass of water in the pub..I heard the others stayed until they were chucked out for singing Jewish Christmas carols and they’ve all been messaging this morning to say they’re so hungover they’re dead…a good night had by all!

A last “date” and some new jeans

In my online adventures, reading about the last few weeks of pregnancy, lots of people recommend going on a date with your partner. I basically resent using this term for a night out with your one and only, but fine..We went on a date. And by date, I mean we went out.

image

The hot date started with an appointment at the bank, opening a new joint account…sexy! The bloke who we had the appointment with was just that..a blokey bloke who wore a knuckle duster of a ring and had gelled hair..he was perfectly nice but insisted on trying to make small talk in between the banking questions..”so…do you like Christmas?” ….”so….are you a football man?”…when Dan answered yes and that he supported West Ham, the bank man said “oh you beauty” and high fived him. Then talked about football for ten minutes. Later, Dan asked me if he should have refused the high five.

Anyways, after that excursion, we were hungry so we picked up a snack in the MacDonald’s across the road…our dinner reservation was many many hours away and we like to mix the high culture with the low…the place was absolutely full of teenagers who’d just finished school…what a fashion eye opener…one boy was wearing TWO pairs of tracksuit bottoms, the top pair pulled down past his bum.

image

Dan doesn’t like it when I openly mock teenagers in public, but this was very difficult not to do.

After this we hit the East Dulwich tat shops to finish off the Christmas shopping, which we pulled off with aplomb..We also got new over priced mugs for ourselves, and some new baubles for our tiny, bare Christmas tree. When shopping for others it’s always good to buy yourself something too right?

Anyways, we then could let the real date begin..drinks in the pub where there was an actual baby’s party and an office party full of drunken screechers who could give the north London Tapper mum from Gogglebox a run for her money. I actually think the drunken office party were teachers from a local school coz they were slurring anecdotes about pupils while they had a fag outside.

image

The final part of the night was at a Peckham restaurant called Artisu…a place described in the review as “achingly cool”…it was so achingly cool, the art on the walls was a framed Jay cloth. A jay cloth! And one of the waitresses was dressed so 90’s, it was like being in an episode of Streetmate..In a good way.

The food was bloody amazing though..it was Italian and so delish..I had a mozzarella and tomato starter that was so tasty and different to your normal bland version of this dish..Then for main, tagliatelle with ox cheek ragu and finally honey and caramel ice cream…all sounds really simple but absolute heaven.

image

I highly recommend it!
The best bit though was this table that had two white old men sat with a young really geeky looking Chinese boy. The men didn’t say one word to the boy the whole time and he didn’t speak at all. What was their deal?! Dan was convinced the boy was a prostitute.

And that’s that!

I didn’t really get dressed up or anything, I just wore these new New Look maternity jeans…Yes I know it’s stupid to buy more clothes at this point but I was desperate. Plus I can still wear them when the baby comes out.
I wore a long sleeved white stretchy top from Sainsbury’s under a stripy jumper my mum brought round the other day..it’s from H&M…I’ve never seen her wear it, she must have found it in the back of her wardrobe, but I really like it. I jazzed it up with red lippy and a yellow Zara necklace.

image

And there you go! Date done!
We also bought tickets to see Edward Scissorhands at Sadlers Wells next Sunday..We figured if the baby hasn’t come it’s a good distraction and if he has come we’ll give the tickets away and won’t care. I’M PLAYING A TRICK ON FATE.

Ok bye!
(This final picture is of the dog grooming shop across the road cos it made us laugh)

The Waiting Game

This post is more of a general update than a style update…I now have one week until Mr Jiggly is due so on one hand I could go into labour at any time, and on the other it could be another three weeks. That’s quite hard to get my head around really. I’ve been reading blogs of other mothers to get tips on how to make the most of my time, and also on what those first few weeks will be like.

I read one yesterday called “diary of a new father”…it started off by saying that the first two weeks are “hell”. Great!
I don’t care if it’s hell though, I just want Mr Jiggly to come.

My time is quite full though..here’s a list of things I’ve been doing and have planned to keep me busy.

1. Procrastination
I was doing a coaching qualification at work and have to do 2 assignments by the end of Jan..the plan was to get these done on my month off before Mr Jiggly comes. Gosh I’m good at putting this off..makes the time go really fast. I’ve done nothing and can’t really see me actually getting started. Oh well who cares when I’ll have a baby! Also I’ve forgotten my password to my work comp and there’s no way in hell I’m calling IT. It’ll really ruin my maternity leave buzz.

image

2. Boxset-erama
I started watching House on Netflix the day I started my mat leave..I’m already on season 5! It’s pretty cheesy and repetitive but I love it. Very easy watching and I think I fancy Hugh Laurie, which is confusing because it’s DARLING! Also it’s Bertie we Worcester..not sexy characters from my childhood really. Anyways I can really wile away the hours watching this. Yesterday I ended up doing nothing but watch House and eat chocolate biscuits and the day went by in a flash!

image

3. Exercise
I’ve loved swimming during my pregnancy..it’s kept me feeling like I’m still exercising, I’m weightless when I do it and it’s great for my aching back, joints and muscles. There’s a pool only a few minutes walk from my new house and I’m going about twice a week..I might try and go every day now because my nights are so uncomfortable. I feel completely relaxed and amazing in the pool it’s great..and if I go in the morning, when I get back it’s time for lunch hooray!

image

4. Ante natal networking
I’m slowly building a bit of a network. We all swapped details at my nhs ante natal classes and last week 4 of us met for lunch. It was really nice to actually find out about people and talk about our aches and pains and plans. I’ve also been swapping details with girls from my maternity yoga class and on Thursday I’m meeting one for a walk and a coffee.

It’s actually really weird building a network..I’ve met other pregnant girls and got on with them and wanted to ask for their number but been too embarrassed…it’s like dating!
You just have to get bold.

image

5. Pamper Pamper Pamper
And no I don’t mean the nappies! Lol.
During the course of my maternity leave I have had/will have had a manicure, bikini wax, facial, pregnancy massage and pedicure. All treats and pampering sessions that either will help me relax or be something to enjoy while I still can.

I highly recommend this if you’re pregnant. Luckily I’ve been given vouchers and presents to help pay for it all as it does all add up.

image

I did read about pregnant people having loads of treatments done so they look good in the photos when the baby comes out…which is weird and not what I’m doing!

There’s no point in me getting a fake tan and semi permanent make up for child birth, I’m sure the sweaty face and bedraggled hair will counteract.

And that’s about it!
My “guide” to pre baby maternity leave…

Next time..I’ll live blog an episode of House for you how riveting!

Dripping in gold

Today I had a social event in my calendar! I actually put on nice clothes and went to meet my friend Halcyon for her birthday brunch.

image

We went to a really cool place in Peckham where she lives…I can’t remember what it’s called but it was brilliant..I had smashed avocado on sourdough toast with halloumi…add halloumi to anything and it’s delish.

image

So what to wear? Well probably one of the three remaining outfits I have left! I couldn’t face wearing my trusty H&M jeggings so I wore my trusty H&M grey dress instead.

You’ve seen this dress before..I think I blogged about it when I was about 27 weeks..well I’m almost 39 now and it’s still going strong.

image

Today I blinged it up big style…gold watch, gold bracelet, gold ring, gold earrings, gold necklace…GOLD!! by the way I hate that song “Gold”, by Spandau Ballet.

image

Don’t sing it. I hate it.

I do love that one that goes “OHHHHHHH VIENNNNAAAAAAA” though…classic.

Anyways, isn’t my new ring cool? Dan got it for me for my birthday..it’s from Bill Skinner..it’s a bee!

image

The watch is new from Dan too and that’s from ASOS. Just so you know though, I don’t shop in ASOS anymore coz they’re jerks.

I wore Brown Chelsea boots, the necklace is from Accessorize and the bracelet and earrings are model’s own.

And that’s it!
Only a week and a half now until Mr Jiggly is due! Here are some photos of his room…argh!!! Exciting!!!!

Just another winter’s tale

This week I actually ventured outside of my postcode and WENT CENTRAL..ie central London.

I’ve been putting off writing a blog cos I really did paint myself into a corner, making this a style blog. Sure, it’s all laughs in the beginning when I’m going to work, weekends away and holidays…but what about when I’ve literally doubled in size, don’t have any clothes, and spend my days watching Netflix and going to Ikea.

image

But I’ve made my bed, so I’d better lie in it. Or…I could do an ASOS. ASOS is a clothes shop website..it started out as “as seen on screen”…you’d find clothes you saw on telly or on celebrities…that didn’t do well and they changed the name to ASOS and everyone forgot you used to click on pictures of Nicky Hilton to shop her look…this was 2005 btw, hence the out of date celebrity reference.

So we’ll see if I end up doing an ASOS (doing an ASOS can also refer to not delivering on promises, bad customer service and missing parcels, but I won’t get into that today), and “Style in Larsville” may end up being called SIL or Si Larsville. Hey! I like that!

image

But what about my night out? Well, my good friend Chris is a member of the London Gay Man’s Chorus and every year they do a fabulous Christmas concert..this year returning to Cadogan Hall in Sloane Square..normally I’m pretty drunk at these affairs but this time I had an elderflower presse…delish!

The night was great! It took me about half an hour to get up the stairs to the stalls and in the interval, two people actually said no when I asked if I could sit on a chair they were saving for a friend…but the rest was great!

My favourite songs were when they did Let it Go from Frozen, and when they did Like a Prayer by Madonna.

I also ate a lovely sausage roll.

I didn’t really get any good photos of my outfit, unforch, but I wore my new H&M maternity jeans (not as comfy as my other ones coz they’re actually jeans not jeansy leggings), a black chiffon vest which is actually my friend Jane’s…I packed it with my stuff after we shared a room on a hen weekend this summer..also added an unstructured blazer. I knew I’d be super hot in the theatre so I purposely dressed in very light layers. I added gold necklaces and brightly coloured Zara earrings. I’ll be honest, I felt like a badly dressed whale.

image

But I think that’s par for the course when you’re 37 weeks preggo.
Ok bye!!
