Ootd: Beach cool

Last week there was a 3 day heat wave so naturally I bought two new dresses and an extra fan for the house in that time.

I worked for each of those days and both the commute and the office were a terrible nightmare for my 5 months pregnant self. All office attire went out of the window and I wore summer dresses and flat sandals each day. I also carried my facial spritz with me everywhere.

At night I got into bed without drying myself after a cold shower..letting the fan do it’s magic.

You’ve just got to know how to cope that’s all!

Anyways, one dress I bought was from Zara of course! It’s perfect for maternity..floaty and cool. I wore it at the weekend for a blustery beach trip but I also wore it during the heat wave for work with a white cami underneath. And long shorts to protect my thighs (preggo chub rub is the WORST).

This photo is of me with my travel fan that also spritzes water.

And here’s one of Fred at the beach…

Bye!

OOTD: The Flora and the Fauna

A few weeks back we had a picnic in Crystal Palace park with all our friends to celebrate Janey’s bday. Gemma (cool shoe designer) turned up in a gorgeous floral dress from Warehouse that was the talk of the town. I basically went straight home and bought it online.

It has a roomy waist which works well with my bump..but a slit up the front threatens to flash my knickers at any given moment. And the first time I wore it, as I was getting out of the car, the already risque slit, slit even further. Oops.

I thought about sending it back but I figured the strain from my bump was what had done it. So I bought some fabric and black lace and my mum created a modesty panel! I think it looks a bit like I’m wearing a slip underneath and I’m really happy with it!

I probably should have just bought a size bigger but hey. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

OOTD: MUGGY

Muggy is one of my favourite words. Others on the list are antipodean and onomatopeaia. But also muggy. I don’t like it when it is actually muggy though. It’s a sartorial nightmare. You’re hot so you want to dress summery.. But it’s probably wet and overcast too.

So today I’m wearing a pair of maternity jeggings from h&m. Best piece of maternity wear I ever bought and still going after a whole pregnancy with Fred. I essentially wore these every day for 6 months before I had him and carried on after he was born. They are a little worse for wear now.. I need to investigate if they still stock them.

I’m wearing them with a blue cami top from topshop and white fake birkenstocks from marksys which are SO comfy. And only 25 quid! They make a little squeaky noise when I walk but birkenstocks do that too.
I’m also having a no makeup day cos my skin is really bad, I’m guessing from the pregnancy hormones..

And there you have it!
Catch you later!

Here’s a pic of my bump….and Lanny.. Or nanny as Fred calls her..

OOTD: yes that’s right it’s nautical again

Yes I love nautical! Every time I think I’m out.. They pull me back in…the nautical clothes, that is.
Oh I just remembered a dream from this morning that fred was black! And I went to a wedding for my brother in law’s sister and my outfit was really bad.

Anyway! I just bought this dress from ASOS in a blind panic cos I don’t have  ANY work clothes all of a sudden. They’re all too small for my growing tummy. In case you are new to my blog I’m 18 weeks pregnant, not just really into magnums. Well I’m also really into magnums.

This dress isn’t my usual style, apart from being nautical.. Cos I usually prefer something fitted to show my bump..but I really love this..makes me feel like a cool floaty woman about town.

I’m wearing it with my red Boden shoes and a gold rope necklace from Accessorize. I’d prefer something colourful but my fave yellow necklace broke and I don’t like ANY of my others anymore. I need a statement necklace restock!

And there you have it!
Catch you later.

30 Days of my Capsule Wardrobe

For 30 days I’ve been living my capsule wardrobe. Every day I’ve taken a photo and posted it on instagram (#30daysofmycapsulewardrobe, I’ve featured some shots through this part but check my instagram @larsville for the full job lot)  and it’s been interesting looking at what I’ve worn each day. Especially how I’ve made it work for my every day mum life and my work wear… I’ve seen some clear trends and I defo haven’t worn half the stuff in my capsule collection.

image

I took inspiration from a blog called Unfancy..a lot of people online have based their capsule wardrobes on this blog…Caroline says to have 37 pieces for every day wear. Underwear, work out gear and lounge wear don’t count. Or special occasion wear like for weddings and stuff don’t count. Coats and jackets and shoes do count. Accessories don’t.

So I’ve had a think and here are ten things I’ve learned…

1. 37 pieces is probably too many..It’s actually loads and I haven’t worn quite a few pieces.

2. I think I need to swap out something for another pair of skinny jeans cos my Jamie jeans are already falling apart from over wear.

image

image

3. There are quite a few pieces I don’t really like that much or don’t fit properly or aren’t really in season so they need to go.

4.  Four coats and two jackets is a bit excessive.

5. Investing in good pieces is worth it, I’ll try and slowly build up to replacing the things I swap out instead of going mad in Zara or H&M in one fell swoop.

6. I might include lounge wear and accessories cos you can still go nuts buying these.

image

image

7. Cos I was taking photos every day I wanted my outfit to be different every day too but that’s not really the point of a capsule wardrobe is it?

8. I think a successful one would have lots of possible combos, but I have lots of complete “outfits”..it would be better to have tops and bottoms that can be swapped about.

9. I really am addicted to shopping. I mean it. I just can’t stop. I’ve bought stuff this month even though I’m meant to be living a capsule wardrobe. But I think if I can get the wardrobe right it’ll be different. I hope.

10. I seem to have some clear work wear and clear non work wear but I’ve done quite well making some pieces work for both.

And there you have it!
I’ll do a separate post with my final capsule wardrobe..just need to figure out the best way to show the pieces…

OOTD: Cosy but sick as a dog

Fred and I are currently getting over a bout of viruses and bugs… He had the unfortunately named hand foot mouth disease (blisters all over and extremely depressed!), then he got a terrible cough and cold and then I got an awful tummy bug! This has meant no baby groups, no outings no visitors really for a few weeks… This last week was really hard. Dan was off work and I was in bed hiding from Fred, resting. I say hiding cos when he sees me he wants breast milk. All day every day. And when i was sick too it was so draining. And I really missed him! It was horrible being upstairs when I could hear him down stairs.
But anyways.. On Saturday I was feeling a bit better so we decided to go on an Autumnal walk (by the way, Autumnal is my absolute favourite word ever)

image

I wore Zara jeans (I love these jeans.. If they were just more high waisted they’d be perfect) and my new snuggly jumper from ASOS.
Of course it was actually really warm on Saturday when the sun came out and for most of the walk we were walking INTO the sun. So I boiled. Of course.

But when the sun went away it was actually the perfect AUTUMNAL outfit. Unforch, my illness took a horrible turn for the worse halfway through the walk and it was pure hell to be out and about. When we got in I went straight to bed. But at least I got to wear contact lenses and lipstick for a few hours.

Jeans Zara
Jumper ASOS
Trainers Converse

Finally it looks like I only have one hand in this picture but I think I was trying to look cosy by pulling my hand in. Weird.

Faux money faux problems!

I called this blog post this because my outfit features faux leather! HAHAHAHAH HILARIOUS.

An outfit of the day post!

image

Today I went to visit my friend Chris and his lovely housemate Robin Taylor.
They live in zone 2! Fancy!

I didn’t want to rock up to their cool flat in cool town looking like a daggy mum so I tried something different with my outfit today.

I recently sorted out my wardrobe..Every 6 months or so I realise my wardrobe is a total mess and I freak out and HAVE TO SORT IT OUT. I also only like clothes hanging up that I would wear any day so anything that doesn’t fit needs to be put away. Ditto anything for the wrong season.
I’ve also been buying up nice hangars from Primark…so Dan kindly watched the baby on Sunday even though I’d been out all day Saturday, so I could spend 2.5 hours doing a wardrobe tidy.

image

The reason I’ve told you all this is because I now have loads of clothes hanging nicely that I’d forgotten about! And they’re easy to find cos I colour coded.

So I put on this asos shirt (with faux leather collar) and zara trousers (with faux leather pocket detail) on a whim. And I liked it! But I wanted to show I don’t have a massive fat “I just had a baby” belly anymore so I tied the shirt at my waist. I’d seen on the vogue website that this is very “in”.
And I liked it more!!

I wore the outfit with pointed zara flats which I love, and berry nails and I felt like a cool fashion forward mummy about town.

And there you have it.

OILY RAGS; FAGS…a 40’s weekend

At the weekend Dan, Freddie and I went to stay with my parents in Chatham..They moved into a new house recently in Chatham Dockyard which is absolutely gorgeous (the house and the dockyard itself). It’s a working dockyard as well as a residential area and they have lots of events there too. Every year they have a 40’s weekend so we popped along (free tickets innit).

image

image

image

None of us got dressed up..I really wanted to dress as a land girl..I’ve been saying I’ll dress up as a land girl for every fancy dress event in the last 10 years but I’m but very good at fancy dress. A good fancy dress outfit takes time and planning and those are not my strong points. I do hate to take time.

But dressing up 40’s is my favorite look. For my wedding my hair and makeup was quite 40’s actually. There’s also a episode of Gilmore Girls eps where Rory dresses up so cool 40’s (I LOVE HER).

image

But in the end I just wore a denim shirt dress with tights and my new mustard coat.

image

THEN I DIED because it was a hot summer’s day sms I changed into these navy Zara trousers and striped Zara top. And Zara flats. Oh. I did it again. Head to toe Zara.

image

Anyways, while we were at mum’s, Fred slept in her room so Dan and I could catch up on some sleep..he then had two of the worst nights he’s had in months so sorry mum but thank duck we were at yours!

And Fred got some new wheels from Dan’s gdad.

Staycation British Seaside Chic

Last week Dan, Fredrik and I packed our bags and drove to Norfolk for a family holiday with his Nan and Grandad, siblings and their families.
We stayed in a massive 7 bedroom house in Cromer that had an aga, a hot tub, a table tennis room, two living rooms and a secret panic room.

Oh by the way I hate agas they’re rubbish. Each time any of us made dinner it took 5 hours and was ruined cos of that thing. Also the entire house was BOILING because of it. I did dry some washing near it though very quickly so it had one purpose.

Yes. I do laundry on holidays. Didn’t you know I need to do five loads a day since I had Fred?

Anyways…Cromer is lovely..I’ve been quite a few times before as my best friend in uni was from there..but all my memories of the place are of getting drunk on the beach and skinny dipping..this time round was a much more wholesome affair…

And what to wear for a windy, rainy British seaside holiday?

image

This was my favorite outfit of the week because it sums up British summertime…it’s a summer dress, but I’ve added a jumper and trainers and a windswept hair do.

image

The dress is Zara, the jumper Topshop and the trainers are Converse.

image

Oh and here’s one of Fred in the hot tub. He’s such a baller.

image

OOTD: In the Navy!

So today I’m wearing all navy..navy jersey skirt from Asos and navy top from Zara…both of these are pre pregnancy clothes that I also wore as maternity gear. The skirt is mega versatile and featured on here quite a lot, along with it’s black sister. The top is great for boob access.

image

image

I’ve worn them with my trusty Topshop belt and Converse.

image

It’s quite good I’m wearing navy and Fredrik is in a nautical dungarees and whale printed vest, cos I’m visiting my parents who live IN a dockyard….

🎵In the navy!🎵 Blah blah blah blah blah🎵 blah….In the Navy! 🎵🎵🎵
